WHITTEN OBITUARIES Mary Fay Whitten - Courier, The (1/14/2004) Mary Fay Whitten, 92, of Conway died Saturday, Jan. 10. 2003 She was born Dec. 21, 1911, in Conway to William H. and Mary Lee Camp Norwood. She was the widow of A. L. Whitten, and a member of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma and First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Mary Carolyn Whitten. She is survived by two sons, Bruce Whitten of Little Rock and Bill Whitten of Conway; a niece, Jane Fore of Russellville; and a nephew, Wyn Norwood of Little Rock. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Marianna Memorial Park Cemetery in Marianna with the Rev. Phil Hathcock officiating. Arrangements are by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home at Conway. She was born in Arundel Feb 27th, 1929 a daughter of Preston Earl Merrill and Gladys Irene Jackson Merrill. She modeled fashions in Boston before graduating from Kennebunk High School in 1946. While her children were growing up she was a member of the Advent Christian Church of the Lower Village, Teaching vacation Bible School. She was a co leader of the Kennebunk Girl Scout Troop. A Band Booster member, a Chairwoman for the Tax Payers Assoc of Kennebunk and volunteered not only in the school District, but did fund raising for many local charities and causes. She was employed at several area Restaurant?s and Inn?s including the former Forest Hill House and Hills News Agency in Kennebunk. She also worked at the former K& E Company in Kennebunk and the Woodworking Shop in West Kennebunk. She always enjoyed knitting, braiding rugs, spending time at the beach, walking, long rides through the Mountains, craft fairs, shopping and dining out with family and friends. She married William Daniel Whitten on Feb. 23 1951. He passed away on October 16, 1975. She also was predeceased by her parents and one brother Franklin Merrill of Orrs Island, Brunswick, Me Surviving are two daughters Carol A. Whitten of Kennebunk and Leslie J. Ethel was born June 22, 1909 in Dale to A.J. Brown and Florence Painter. She married Wallace Whitten on Aug. 1, 1928 in the E.U.B. Church parsonage in Dale. She was a member of the Dale United Methodist Church.
