Mary Fay Whitten, 92, of Conway died Saturday, Jan. 10. 2003
She was born Dec. 21, 1911, in Conway to William H. and Mary Lee Camp Norwood. She was the widow of A. L. Whitten, and a member of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma and First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Mary Carolyn Whitten.
She is survived by two sons, Bruce Whitten of Little Rock and Bill Whitten of Conway; a niece, Jane Fore of Russellville; and a nephew, Wyn Norwood of Little Rock.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Marianna Memorial Park Cemetery in Marianna with the Rev. Phil Hathcock officiating. Arrangements are by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home at Conway.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church at Conway or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.


MAPLE CITY - Ethel Elnetta Whitten, mother and homemaker, passed away at Maple Valley Nursing Home, Maple City on Nov. 5, 2003.

     She was born on Jan. 27, 1915, the daughter of Phillip and Nellie (Westcott) Tobin.
     She was a lifelong resident of Maple City and graduated as valedictorian from Maple City High School in 1933.
     On Sept. 3, 1935, she married Merle D. Whitten. She is survived by four children; Tracey D. (Shirley) Whitten of Traverse City, Sandra L. Wilson of Maple City, Merle D. (Joan) Whitten of Jenison and Gary L. (Margaret) Whitten of Traverse City, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews, two sisters, Nellie Drew of Grand Rapids and Margie Yanaros of Long Island, New York, two brothers, Phillip Tobin of Grand Rapids and Frank Tobin of Maple City.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Constance Faye Youker and sister Jessie Wepking.
     Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. from the Covell Funeral Homes, with visitation on Sunday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and on Monday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
     Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire.
     Memorials may be directed to the Maple Valley Nursing Home.
     Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes.

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Carl Whitten of Winter Haven died of lung failure Sunday (Jan. 18, 2004) at Winter Haven Hospital. He was 73.

Born in Tampa on Oct. 18, 1930, he came to Winter Haven from there in 1994. He was a retired technician for GTE and worked for the company for more than 26 years. He was a member of the Lake Alfred Lions Club, and a volunteer for the Winter Haven Meals on Wheels. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a Methodist.

Mr. Whitten is survived by his wife, Christine; sons, Robert Whitten, Spring Hill, Les Whitten, Cape Coral; parent, Corrie Whitten, Winter Haven; three grandchildren.

Felicia Logan

Felicia Logan of Bronx, N.Y, formerly of Halifax County, died January 12 at Montefiore Medical Center.

She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Janie Ewell Logan.

Funeral services for Ms. Logan will be Sunday, January 18 at 3 p.m. at Millstone Baptist Church with the Rev. Chester Spruill officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-7 p.m. at Dunn and Sons Funeral Home in Halifax, and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus Logan, 6205 L.P. Bailey Highway.

Linda Whitten McAdams

Linda Whitten McAdams, 63, formerly of South Boston, died January 5 at Hendrick's Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.

Ms. McAdams was the daughter of the late Louise Whitten of South Boston and the late Roy Lawson Whitten and the granddaughter of the late Roy and Dora Doss of South Boston.

Survivors include her daughter, Angela L. McAdams of Abilene; her son and daughter-in-law, Joe D. McAdams Jr. and Laura Mosby, of Newport News; three brothers, Larry Whitten and wife, Mary Ann, of Abilene, Richard Whitten and wife, Gail, of South Boston, and Kenny Rock and wife, Michelle, of Kure Beach, N.C.; four grandchildren, Christopher Avery, Alyssa McAdams, Jessica Gillenwater, and Addison Weddle.

A memorial service will be held in the spring in South Boston.

Lorraine Merrill Whitten, age 74 years, a resident of Cat Mousam Rd. Kennebunk died Wednesday Oct. 22, at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a brief illness. She was the widow of William D. Whitten.

She was born in Arundel Feb 27th, 1929 a daughter of Preston Earl Merrill and Gladys Irene Jackson Merrill. She modeled fashions in Boston before graduating from Kennebunk High School in 1946.

While her children were growing up she was a member of the Advent Christian Church of the Lower Village, Teaching vacation Bible School. She was a co leader of the Kennebunk Girl Scout Troop. A Band Booster member, a Chairwoman for the Tax Payers Assoc of Kennebunk and volunteered not only in the school District, but did fund raising for many local charities and causes. She was employed at several area Restaurant?s and Inn?s including the former Forest Hill House and Hills News Agency in Kennebunk. She also worked at the former K& E Company in Kennebunk and the Woodworking Shop in West Kennebunk. She always enjoyed knitting, braiding rugs, spending time at the beach, walking, long rides through the Mountains, craft fairs, shopping and dining out with family and friends.

She married William Daniel Whitten on Feb. 23 1951. He passed away on October 16, 1975. She also was predeceased by her parents and one brother Franklin Merrill of Orrs Island, Brunswick, Me

Surviving are two daughters Carol A. Whitten of Kennebunk and Leslie J. Mailhiot of Wells, one grandson Adam W. Perkins of Kennebunk. Also surviving are a brother Alan Merrill of Kennebunkport and an aunt Blanche Manson of Kennebunk. She. She has 16 nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Friends may call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk Sunday evening from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the chapel 11 AM Monday Oct 27th with the Rev. Robert M. Howes officiating the service. Interment in Hope Cemetery.

LAKELAND -- Mr. Wesley James Whitten Jr. of Lakeland Fla died of cancer Saturday (Jan. 24, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 69. Born in Steger, Ill., on July 16, 1934, he came to Lakeland from Crete, Ill., five years ago. He was a truck driver for Central Transport in Sterling, Mich., for 10 years. Mr. Whitten is survived by his wife, Patricia Whitten; sons, Brian Whitten, Crete, Ill., Brett Whitten, Pueblo, Colo.; daughter, Stepanie Dralle, Crete; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Cremation Services of Mid-Florida.


Ethel Whitten

Dale resident Ethel Mae Whitten died Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7:10 a.m. at Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale. She was 94.

Ethel was born June 22, 1909 in Dale to A.J. Brown and Florence Painter. She married Wallace Whitten on Aug. 1, 1928 in the E.U.B. Church parsonage in Dale. She was a member of the Dale United Methodist Church.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Whitten; a daughter, Betty Kissel; two brothers, Paul and Roy Brown; four sisters, Lyla Musgrave, Mary Brown, Ettie Brown and Lois Kaiser; and her parents, A.J. and Florence Brown.

She is survived by three daughters, Peggy Lovell, Carolyn Wedeking and Jane Conner, all of Dale; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Dale United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Dale Cemetery.

Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory in Dale handled the arrangements.

        Elizabeth "Betty" Haynes Whitten, 71, of 170 Brunswick Ave.
    died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996.
        A native of Winterville, Mrs. Whitten was a daughter of the
    late H. Armstrong Haynes and Mae Holden Haynes. She was the widow
    of Henry F. Whitten. She graduated from the University of Georgia
    with a bachelor's degree in education. She was a retired teacher
    and member of the National Educators Association and Georgia
    Educators Association. She was also a member of the Ladies Society
    of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. She was a member of First
    Baptist Church, Fitzgerald.
        Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with
    the Revs. Gene Wilder and Bill Kitchens officiating. Burial will be
    in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald.
        Survivors include two daughters, Linda W. Braun, Fitzgerald,
    and Jean W. Mobley, Powder Springs; two granddaughters; two
    great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
        The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Paulk
    Funeral Home, Fitzgerald.



Charles H. Whitten

        Charles Harold Whitten, 54, of 1335 Skeeter Drive, Rock Branch
    community, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996.
        A native of Fulton County, Mr. Whitten was a son of the late
    James S. and Cleva Mae Capes Whitten. He was preceded in death by a
    son, Charles Jonathan Whitten. He was a self-employed peanut
    salesman and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
        Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Rock Branch
    Baptist Church with the Revs. Ed Sayer and Terry Meeks officiating.
    Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in
    the church at 3:30 p.m.
        Survivors include his wife, Betty McDonald Whitten; two sons,
    Clarence Richard Pierce Sr., Luthersville, and Joe Pierce,
    Elberton; two daughters, Debra J. Collins, Hampton, and Carolyn H.
    Johnson, Elberton; three brothers, Preston Whitten, Clifford
    Whitten and Ronnie Whitten, all of Griffin; eight sisters, Betty D.
    Whitten, Catherine Argo and Hazel Ernest, all of Griffin, Nancy
    Walls, Dunwoody, Sandra Whitten, Fayetteville, Patsy Aho,
    Riverdale, Ruth Carter, McDonough, and Cynthia Cowards, Canton; 12
    grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
        The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Strickland
    Funeral Home, Hartwell.
