This 3rd Ga. Reg't. was part of the I famous Wright's brigade, Anderson's divison,
A. P. Hill's corps, and army of the illustrious Robert E. Lee.
Company D. 3rd. Ga.. Reg't., from April 26th, 1861, to April 9th, 1863. Copied from
muster rolls and morning reports by Capt. C. H. Andrews:

2nd Sergeant John A. MARTIN, son of William H. MARTIN, enlisted in Captain Hughes's Company, 1st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry on 25 April 1862. Transferred to Company D, 5th Georgia Cavalry Regiment on 20 January 1863. Served in all campaigns of the war with the 5th Cavalry. Was paroled at Hillsboro North Carolina on 26 April 1865.  He Married Georgia Loanz Whitten 16 December 1860, daughter of Joseph and Ann (Warnell) Whitten. They had 7 children: 1. Loanza Jedadiah Martin, 2. William Joseph Martin, 3. David Jackson Martin, 4. Daniel Martin, 5. Clara Lolee Martin, 6. Rubin Martin, 7. Sarah Frasier Martin (Mims).  He died in Liberty County in 1904, and is buried in Taylor Creek Cemetery. ["Taylors Creek 1760-1986 A Story of the Community and her people" -  Houston -  Joseph E. Mims]
