I am certain that the Sarah Ann Mercer (b. 5/30/1844 d. 11/24/1912), daughter of Noah Mercer (b. 12/26/1822 d. 1/12/1904) of Robeson Co., NC married Simon Allen (b. 2/26/1836 d. 9/12/1909). Sarah Ann, Simon, Noah and Mary Byrd Mercer (b. 12/16/1823 d. 8/30/1891) are buried in the cemetery at Jackson Swamp in Robeson Co., (Lumberton) NC.
Mary Exanna Allen, daughter of Sarah Ann and Simon, was my great grandmother.

Notes for NOAH MERCER:
Noah was raised by his Uncle Rowland Mercer. His father left him in Rowland's care and never returned to Robeson County. There are reports that his sister did visit, but this is reported , not proven.
When Noah's grandfather died, he was left 100 acres of land. I quote from the will dated July 20, 1852 of Naoh Mercer, probated in the February Term, 1855. to Grandson Noah Mercer, Oldest sonof Meredith Mercer, 100 acres next to Rowland Mercer "in and above brister bay"; 200 acres on both sides of the Sassafords branch above the Willis land: also all the lands of the heirs of Samuel Willis that now belongs to me.
1870 Census shows age 47. Living in Lumberton Township. Dealer in Dry Goods. Real Estate valued at 1400 and personal property at 500. Baptist Preacher
1900 Census - reflects age 77, married to Harriet J, age 67, married for 8 years.
Tombstone Inscription: Thine eyes shall see the King in his beauty. The burial site is about the middle of the cemetery. There are five white stones in a line. His grave is the last one of the five going north. The cemetery is well kept. ( 10-24-2001 JKD)

At the present time, 2002, Jacob Vernon Britt, the great great grandson of Noah is the Pastor at Center Baptist Church. Noah was the first Pastor. Noah was involved with many other churches during his life time. He was very well respected in his community.

Noah Mercer of Robeson County, N C, departed this life in triump on August 30th, 1891, in her sixty-eighth year. converted at about the age of twenty years, she died a consistent member of the Baptist Church. A large congregation attended her burial service, which was conducted by the writer, and many were the expressions of esteem heard on all sides. Her sister, Lucy , married William Rufus Allen the grandson of William and Martha Shuffell. His father was Joseph Allen the son of William and Margaret Shuffel.

Notes for SIMON ALLEN:
Joined his father and 14 other men on a raid against a group of runnaway slaves holed up in the Great Swamp. The runnaway slaves numbered eight. They chased the runnaways out of the swamp, killing two of them in the process. The runnaways had killed David Lewis about 18 months prior to this raid of January 26, 1858
Enlisted in Company H, 36th Regiment N C T (2nd Regiment N C Artillery ). This battery, known as the "Clarendon Guards", enlisted in Bladen and New Hanover Counties March-April 1862 and was mustered into Confederate States service, at Wilmington, on May 10, 1862, for the war, as " Captain Daniel Patterson's Artillery Company of North Carolina Volunteers." When the 36th Regiment N C Troops (2nd Regiment N C Artillery) was organized on May 12, 1862, this battery was assigned as Company H.
Allen, Simon, Private, born in Robeson County, where he resided as a farmer and enlisted at Wilmington at age 24, March 22, 1862 for the war. Present or accounted for through August 1864.

CSA. Enlisted 5-6-1862 for the war. 2nd Company K, 43th Regiment, North Carolina Troops. Captured at Fort Fisher on January 15, 1865 and confined at Elmira, New York until transfered for exchange.
1870 Census-Bladen County lists William R Allen age 29, Lucy A age 23, Carolina age 3 and Rufus age 1.
William received land when his fathers lands were divided. His portion was located in Gurley's Neck. He later sold this land to relatives and moved between Dublin and Elizabethtown.

James Pope owned farmland, a millpond and a grist mill on Mercer road near the present day Bladen County Hospital. He was so disturbed over James E Warwick being acquitted for the murder of his son, Rod Mercer, he sold all his properties in Bladen County and moved to Robeson County. James Pope was nearly 70 years of age at the time. He used the proceeds of those sales to provide farms and other properties that would benefit his children. He purchased a store in Shannon for my grandfather John Durham Mercer. James was considered a wealthy farmer and prominent citizen.

Marshall was a successful farmer, Postmaster of the Center Road Post Office, Chairman of the Center Road School and local merchant. The post offfice and school were located on the savannah where the new Pait Cemetery is located. He was a thirfty man who built his own coffin before he died. He was first a member of Hickory Grove Baptist church and was their messenger to the Cape Fear Baptist Association October 23-27, 1873 at Dry Branch Church in Robeson county. He gave the land on which the first Center Road School was built.

Robesonian- June 23, 1930 Mr. W H Parnell Dies On Route 7 Passing at age 76 follows Illness of Several Weeks- Funeral at Singletary's Crossroads This P M by J M Fleming Mr Willam Henry Parnell died Sunday about 4 o'clock in the afternoon at the home of his son in law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Emory Kinlaw, of R-7 form Lumberton, where he had been sick for several weeks. He was 76 years old and a most excellent Christian gentleman and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church to which he was always faithful. His funeral will be held this afternoon from the pulpit of Singletary's Crossroads church about 4 o'clock, conducted by his pastor and interment will be made in the cemetery there.
He leaves to mourn the departure of a good father 3 sons, George , Henry , and Hoke of r-5 from Lumberton; 4 daughters, Madams M C Britt of Orrum, Liclon McLean and C O Talton of R-5, amd Emory Kinlaw of R-7 from Lumberton, respectively, besides a great host of other relatives and numerous friends. His friends were numbered by his aquaintences. We shall miss him sorely. I have known him since1895. He was always quite and unassuming. He stood foursquare for everything athat was good and noble, high and holy. He was against everything that was false, counterfeit and bad. There can be no doubt as to his blessed rest. We can sing for him "Asleep in Jesus Blessed Sleep" and preach on the test, "Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; for the end of that man is peace.' My sincere and profound sympathy is extended the loved ones.
