Hyman and Bynum Mercer were twins.Hyman and Martha are buried in a small family cemetery on R.R. 1308, about one half mile from old N.C. 264, in Greene Co.,N.C.--near Walstonburg. It is a very small cemetery, right by the road.
Hyman owned the land adjoining the farm of Redding (?) Ben(?) Ruff. Redding Ruff would have been his grandfather. (This is according to a conversation with Mr. John Beaman of Walstonburg, Greene Co., N.c. in 1973.)
Hyman served in Co. F, 61st Inf. Reg. during the Civil War. (Partial Roster of Confederate Soldiers From Wislon Co. 1861-1865, by Hugh Johnston located in the Wilson Co. Public Library on 4 November, 1991.)
