Thomas TROTMAN, b abt 1763 in NC, m Winnifred CULLEN , mar bond 3 Mar 1788, Bertie Co, NC. Believed to be Thomas TROTMAN who served in Revolutionary War. Some have placed him in wrong family. He seems to be the Thomas referred to as Susanna's son Thomas TROTMAN in her mother's will (Susanna dau of Edward TROTMAN & Elizabeth WALTON). Susanna is mentioned in bastardy bonds as having a female child by Blount GARRETT. Was Thomas also Blount's son? Thomas TROTMAN had son named Blount TROTMAN, no other known connection to Blount family--named for Blount GARRETT? Thomas & Winnifred moved to Washington Co, GA, where he died abt 1802-1803. Blount & Thomas TROTMAN, two sons, moved to Stewart Co, GA, 1830s-1840s. One son, Cullen, died young--had two ch: Marshal, changed last name to CASON, & dau Winnifred--what happened to her? Supposed to have been a dau of Thomas & Winnifred, Mary, who had son Frederick Cullen MCDONALD--they moved to Crenshaw Co, AL. Who was Mary's husband? Supposed to have been other children of Thomas & Winnifred--who were they?
My first cousin who responded to your message did not fully explain the situation. Blount is not illegitimate. Blount appears to be the son of Thomas TROTMAN & Winnifred CULLEN (see my message #74). Blount may have been named after Thomas's probable father, Blount GARRETT (see also the GARRETT web site). Brothers Thomas TROTMAN Jr. (my anc) & Blount TROTMAN both moved to Stewart Co, GA. Winnifred seems to be the dau of Nathan CULLEN & Christian DOCTON. Frederick & Jacob CULLEN (believed to be Winnifred's bros), & possibly the TROTMANs, moved to Edgefield Co, SC. Don't know what happened to Jacob. Later, Frederick CULLEN moved to Wash. Co, GA as did the TROTMANs. Frederick was administrator of Thomas TROTMAN's estate in Wash. Co.
I am looking for Blount Trotman/Troutman who married Susan Harrell and lived in Washington Co. GA. He died between 1830 and 1850. She eventually moved to Alabama.
Most of the GA TROTMANs are from Bertie-Gates-Chowan Co, NC area. There was a Benjamin TROTMAN in that area. Am not familiar with Isabella or Joshua. My Thomas TROTMAN came from Bertie Co, NC, & went to Washington Co, GA 1790-1800. Thomas TROTMAN married Winnifred CULLEN in Bertie 1788. There were four known children: Cullen, Blount, Thomas, & Mary (married a MCDONALD & had son Frederick Cullen MCDONALD). Blount & Thomas moved to Stewart Co, GA by 1840. Mary moved to AL. Cullen died in Washington Co, leaving widow & two young children. There were supposed to have been other children of Thomas & Winnifred but have not been able to find them. There was a TROUTMAN family from Iredell Co, NC that also settled in GA. This family is of German origin--the TROTMANs are of English origin.
